We are a group of 200+ literacy educators from all around Australia
... and growing!
We are all passionate literacy advocates.
We support the Adelaide Declaration on
National Goals for Schooling in Australia
– agreed to by the Commonwealth and all State and Territory Governments.
Private schools have been over-funded by more than $2 billion over 4 years (secret review by federal Department of Education). ___________________________________

"International Benchmarking of
Australian Schools" (23 Feb 2008)
Most of us work as teachers, principals, consultants in
schools, or lecturers in teacher education. Many of us are authors of
children’s books and teacher reference books. Many of us are
sought as speakers at state, national and international conferences.
Our members include presidents and past-presidents of ALEA
(Australian Literacy Educators Association), PETA (Primary English
Teaching Association) and AATE (the Australian Association for the
Teaching of English).
We are a coalition of concerned literacy
educators
who believe that teachers deserve ACCURATE
information.
Included in our
coalition are members of many different language and literacy groups,
including:
• Australian Literacy
Educators’ Association (ALEA)
• Australian Association for the Teaching of
English (AATE)
• Primary English Teaching Association
Australian (PETA)
• Systemic Linguistics Association
• Centre for Research in Language and Literacy
• International Reading Association (IRA)
• National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
Many of us have been
acknowledged for our work in literacy. Our awards include:
• Garth Boomer Award
• Teacher of the Year
• Outstanding Educator
• IRA's "Reading Hall of Fame"
• Outstanding Educator in Language
Arts, NCTE (first
non-American to receive this honour)
• International Year of Literacy Medal for
"Contributions to Australian Literacy
Education"
