Plood, pove, moul: teachers push back against Year 1 phonics test

Sydney Morning Herald, 12 Feb 2018.  The symposium, arranged by Prof Robyn Ewing AM, was booked out as soon as it was announced, and will be repeated on 17 March.  Decoding means accessing meaning.  Since nonsense words have no meaning, it is not possible to decode them (only to recode, or go from a printed code to an oral code).  The non-educators pushing this test don’t understand what decoding is and they need to look at the Australian Curriculum.  Read article here
