Psychology Today, 5 May 2015. Studies consistently show that early academic training may increase scores on specific tests that the training is aimed at (no surprise) but these initial gains wash out within 1 to 3 years, and at least in some studies, are eventually reversed. Read the article here
Language development is generally a better predictor of later reading than early reading. Early reading is more complicated than early mastery of reading skills and educators must reconsider what is important for 5 and 6 year olds.
